Dodeydra-a simple hike in two hours

“Do you know the path?”  Duty personnel at the entrance of Samtencholing Palace asked. We are determined as we have been accompanied by the person who have traveled before. No worries! There are many known and not known who are heading towards our destination.

The journey takes you through sloppy ascends in the blue pines. The heat is little tolerable. As there is no water tap on the way, it is advisable to take a water filled bottle.

Dodeydra Buddhist University rests calmly in the blue pine woods. Its tranquility ingrained in the untouched scenery of ancient temples, welcomes from far, the visitor expecting to explore the myth of the structural beauty. The main temple is being built attached to the cliff is so amazing.

You get it snapped at the welcome canopy, against the beautiful backdrop of the Dodeydra Monastry complex.  After few minutes of descend, you arrive to the main gate. An intricacy of aesthetic carving on the gate thrills and contends the visitors. It is like falling for the first sight. Later after few treads you are formally welcomed with a tea and snacks. This was a boost up to our much exhausted energy and shrinking belly.
The main Temple at Dodeydra

An excerpt from, ‘http://zhungdratshang.org/dingrim-shedra/’  Thrulzhig Namkhai Neljor visited and blessed the place in the 9th century. In 1779, Earth Hog Year, Je Yonten Thaye adopted it as his residence. He added several temples to the complex. Later in the 1986, His Majesty the Fourth King and the 68th Je Khenpo established a Shedra for many young students who left their secular schools and joined the monastic body for the first time after completion of their high and junior high schools (Zhung Dratshang).

Lunch at the beautiful park

In the proximity of the Monastry complex, wonderful parks are being created for the visitors. It is a good place to enjoy our lunch and any other snacks if carried with us. A park has been created with the traditional structure but with modern outlook.

There are lot many exciting stories to hear about this place. You may visit in person to get blessed. The monastery houses many other artifacts and monuments.
